Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is TexasSiteSearch.com?
TexasSiteSearch.com is an interactive map tool and data source that allows users to explore the unique characteristics of any Texas location and assess its suitability as a potential business site. Clickable map layers allow users to explore the geographic assets of the state, including transportation infrastructure, universities, and Enterprise Zones. Extensive proprietary data sets allow users to access detailed demographic, workforce, and consumer profiles for every city and county in the state, as well as for a customizable radius surrounding a city. The familiar Google Maps interface allows most users to easily begin utilizing the site without tutorial. The service is powered by GIS Planning's ZoomProspector software.
Who can access TexasSiteSearch.com?
Anyone anywhere can view and use TexasSiteSearch.com free of charge. No sign-up process or password is required.
Where does TexasSiteSearch.com get the data contained in its Community Profiles?
For each city and county in the state, TexasSiteSearch.com provides a detailed Community Profile that compiles key data points from multiple sources. Data in the Labor Force, Demographics, and Consumer Spending tabs within each profile are obtained from a third-party data vendor, Applied Geographic Solutions. All data in these tabs is projected for the current calendar year, providing an advanced estimate that is not available from the U.S. Census. (At any given time, the most recent available Census estimates typically lag a year behind the present year.) Additionally, data in the Wages tab is obtained from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, while data in the Housing tab is provided by real estate service Zillow.
How often is the data updated?
Information in the Community Profiles is automatically updated monthly or annually, depending on the type and source of the data. Similarly, map layers are updated as related content changes or becomes available.
How does TexasSiteSearch.com connect interested parties to community representatives?
Each Community Profile provides the contact information for the Designated Community Economic Development (DCED) entity in that jurisdiction. Additionally, a clickable "Community Contacts" layer on the map provides a quick reference for the name and location of all economic development representatives around the state.
